The houses of Parliament were a buzz yesterday as the Queen took centre stage to deliver her speech.
But not everyone at Westminster was there to see the Queen or indeed to raid any MPs offices. On the banks of the Thames, in the echelons of power, groups of health leaders were talking to general practices as they celebrated success in QOF.
The winners of the Improvement Foundation's Guy Rotherham Award and NHS Alliance & Schering-Plough CHD QOF Awards were there to formally celebrate their successes.
What was most encouraging to see was the representation of practice managers at the event, with the whole team from Ringmead Medical Practice in Bracknell, who won the CHD award, turning out for the occasion.
In fact, all the speakers were keen to stress both the importance of primary care, and the importance of teamwork, including practice management, in that system.
Afterwards, at a celebratory dinner for the winners, Prof. David Colin-Thomè, National Clinical Director for Primary Care, chatted to Practice Business about his enthusiasm for the important role that you play.
It was encouraging to hear and it was a sentiment that echoed around the room.
The Queen may take all the headlines, but general practice and practice managers can be encouraged by the positives messages that were heard in halls of power.
