Is it because Spring is in the air? We were lucky enough recently to be hit with an unseasonal burst of sunshine, so maybe it is the fact we have all enjoyed a good showering of vitamin D. Maybe it's because I am writing this at six o'clock on a Friday evening as the weekend peers its head around the door, waiting to greet me with a welcome hug. Whatever the answer, we are all a much happier bunch.
The latest results of the NHS Staff Survey, announced by the Healthcare Commission, show that staff satisfaction in the NHS is an ever improving factor. Alastair Henderson, joint acting director at NHS Employers, believes that what it all boils down to is that workers in the NHS are happy they are making an improvement in peoples lives. The survey showed that 90 per cent of workers felt their efforts had an impact on people's lives.
However much we may complain about the state the health service, any annoying facets of the structure, the underlying fact is that through the valuable work of the NHS, people's lives can be greatly improved.
So, while you are whistling zip-a-dee-do-dah in your office, you may notice a spring in your practice nurse's step, a smile on the face of your doctors, or a cheery wave from your receptionist, it could be that hit of vitamins, or it could be the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing a great job and people appreciate it.
