General practice is the cornerstone of the NHS. However constant change, negative rhetoric and spin and declining profits have lead to a demoralised primary care sector.
GPs continue to strive to provide their patients with a first class service but the continual effects of change and political pressure are making general practice more difficult. In particular:
Changes made to the QOF place greater emphasis on patient experience and make it more difficult to maximise achievement
Inadequate funding for extended hours poses a further threat to profits and the work/life balance
Increased superannuation contributions reduce take home pay but do not improve pension entitlements
The Darzi plan places further pressure on traditional general practice. Can small practices survive? How should practices respond to the Polyclinic threat?
The Pharmacy in England white paper threatens the very existence of many dispensing practices
The seminars will focus on the legal, financial and management issues arising from these pressures. We will highlight the key issues that you face and will review the options available to you to maintain a healthy general practice.
