A Nottingham-based GP attacked his wife and practice manager, kicking her in the jaw, head and back after blaming her for his poor trading on the Wall Street stock exchange, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Dr Parvaze Khalique, who had a history of domestic violence, had been in trading in his study at the home he shared with wife Naeima Khalique on 9 April when he attacked her.
After the attack, boots pharmacist and practice manager at her husband's surgery, Mrs. Khalique left in the family Range Rover to go to the police station. Her husband followed in a different car, but police stopped him for ignoring a red traffic light in the city centre.
Mrs. Khalique was later treated at the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham for a swollen nose, bruised knee and cuts on her elbow.
At Nottingham Crown court, Dr Khalique admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. Khalique was sentenced to an 18-month community order with supervision.
There had been a circular from patients calling for the return of their GP, as the doctor had been on remand for a short time before the hearing. Dr Khalique must also complete an integrated domestic abuse programme and was given a restraining order.
Dr Khalique, who works at Giltbrook Surgery in Giltbrook, near Nottingham will now face a hearing to decide his future in the profession.
