GP services are cheaper than NHS Direct

GP services remain cheaper than NHS direct, according to latest figures.

The GPC claims that the service is not providing value for money or easing pressure on GPs.

Figures released by health minister Ben Bradshaw show that the helpline's cost per call was over £25.

Richard Vautrey, GPC deputy chairman said: "There is still too little evidence that NHS Direct relieves pressure on GP or hospital services."

In comparison to the NHS Direct figures, the BMA estimates the cost of a GP visit at around £20 - £25.
