NICE to make framework more cost-effective

QOF is to be massively overhauled, with half of clinical indicators to be scrapped in the next fours years, according to an investigation.

One of the indicators set for reciew is the use of statin treatment for coronary heart disease.

A document published by the DH last week draws the blueprint for NICE to radically reshape the QOF for cost-effective practice.

NICE has been granted powers to reshape QOF from April next year.

It is expected that the nearly the entire QOF will be reviewed for cost-effectiveness, with those not deemed cost-effective to be scrapped.
