COPD strategy

Released 01/03/2010

New national strategy focuses on identification and self-management

The long-awaited National Strategy for COPD has been released for consultation.

The strategy focuses on early identification and better self-management, with a large section dealing with the attempt to diagnose over two million unrecognised cases of the disease.

However, the DH says new funding will not be made available to fund the strategy. PCTs will instead be expected to ‘re-prioritise' resources and make efficiency savings.
